The route this page looks at is the former Calder Highway alignment between Malmsbury, Taradale and Elphinstone, which is generally a 2-laned rural highway, although there is a small 4-laned segment at Malmsbury.

History:

1925: North Western Highway (would later become Calder Highway) declared. 3
1928: North Western Hwy renamed Calder Hwy. 3
1996: Conversion from NR79 to M/A79 as part of Vicroads alphanumeric route numbering scheme
April 2008: A 15 km section of the Malmsbury reconstruction stage opened. 1 This bypasses the towns of Malmsbury, Taradale and Elphinstone. 4
