General Information:

SR75 links Perth to the west coast beach suburb of Scarborough. It's mostly single crarriageway with one lane in each direction, although closer to Scarborough and around Osborne Park there is some 4 lane sections along the route.

The Scarborough Beach Road section started as a rough track to the beach, which was then upgraded to a plank road and was named Plank Road in the early 1900s. It was built to offer access to the Osborne Park agricultural and market gardening area and Scarborough Beach.

History:

• 1912-1920: Plank Road renamed North Beach Road 1
• 1927: North Beach Road had been extended to the beach and was renamed Scarborough Beach Road, Harold Millet's Scarborough Bus Co started providing a service to the Scarborough Beach and the outmoded "Plank Road" was replaced by a macadamised road (layers of small broken stones, rolled solid and smooth) 1
• 1930 Scarborough Beach Road was widened 1
• 1932-1935: bituminising of Scarborough Beach Road 1
• In provided an urgently needed link between the various coastal beaches 1
