About Expressway
About the author and the site:
Hi, I'm Paul Rands, creator of the Expressway site, which was started on May 5, 2002.
The site is a hobby of mine, from an interest in roadly things when I was growing up as a child. Since being connected to the internet, I have found others with similar hobbies and the like and can say that the site was inspired by Bradley Torr's and Lachlan Simm's highway sites. I was also inspired by the lack of Australian sites available at the time.
These days there are a plethora of Aussie Road sites, official and unofficial.
Most of the photos are taken either by myself or by a few friends. Several photos are submissions from visitors to the web site.
Photos that have been taken by me are done using mostly digital photography, but some of the original site photos are scans from prints of 35mm film.
Cameras used are an Olympus Trip AF-20 35mm camera, Casio QV-R3 3MP digital camera, Sony Ericsson K-750i 2MP camera mobile phone and a Sony DSC-S40 4.1MP digital camera. All shots taken within a vehicle have been taken from the passenger seat, except selected ones from November 2005 onwards, they are taken whilst in motion with the camera mounted to the dashboard of the car using a Clamperpod.
The Sign Gallery section is designed to be a vault of current and past standard road signs. The images are reproductions based on old traffic sign catalogues, user handbooks and official Manual of Uniform Traffic Devices. Signs are also reproduced from photographs and from memory.
