General Information:

The first sets of traffic signals went into operation at the junctions of Northbourne Avenue & London Circuit and Northbourne Avenue & Cooyong Street in Civic, on 23rd October 1965. *

Since then, numerous traffic signals have sprung up all over the ACT. There are now 178 intersections controlled by traffic lights in the A.C.T. Additionally, there are 23 signalised pedestrian crossings. *

AWA Pedestrian Signal:
Early polycarbonate pedestrian signal manufactured by AWA. These originally had worded cutouts installed in the signal. This one has been retrofitted with pictograms. Corner of Hindmarsh Dr & Callam St, Woden.

1960's AWA Signal:
AWA traffic light with Eagle pedestrian signal on the corner of London Circuit & Northbourne Avenue, Civic, ACT. This signal head has now been replaced and was most likely one of the original in this location - which was one of the 2 first signalised junctions in the ACT.
