9 (Luddenham to Campbelltown) (Narellan / Northern Road Link Construction)
The indication of a road linking the staggered intersections of Narellan Road, The Northern Road and Camden Valley Way (formerly Hume Highway has been marked on street direcory maps for years. Work to connect The Northern Road and Narellan Roads directly to each other began in late 2006, providing an important link in the area, eliminating traffic bottlenecks and a smoother run between Campbelltown and Penrith. According to the NSW Roads & Traffic Authority web site (at January 2007), Construction work on Narellan Road extension commenced in August 2006. The project is expected to be completed by early 2007 (weather permitting). The work is part of the Narellan Road upgrade works that were announced in March 2003 by the State Government as part of the traffic and transport improvements for the Camden Local Government area.
The projects are funded by the NSW State Government from developer contributions generated by the Spring Farm and Elderslie release areas that form part of the Narellan land release.
The project started with new traffic signals being activated at the intersection of Narellan Road with Waterworth Drive and Hartley Road on 24 February 2006,
new traffic signals activated at the intersection of Narellan Road with Mount Annan Drive and Tramway Drive on 13 April 2006 and minor asphalting, pavement and landscaping works completed in July 2006.
