State Route 40 (Former Alignment Glebe Island Bridge)

The Glebe Island Bridge used to be utilised by thousands of vehicles everyday until the Anzac Bridge opened in.

The bridge, has a central span that was designed to 'spin' around to let ships pass through. Whenever the bridge was opened, because being on one of Sydney's most used thoroughfares, used to cause major traffic woes.

The bridge is now closed to traffic, however has been left permanently open to shipping traffic.
