State Route 60 (Princes Highway & Northern Distributor) (Bulli Tops to Yallah)

Existing roads were re-named ‘Princes Highway’ after the visit to Australia in 1920 of the Prince of Wales (who became King Edward VIII, thence the late Duke of Windsor). The highway was officially opened on August 10 1920 at Warragul, Victoria.

State Route 60 is the Princes Highway between Bulli Tops and Yallah (about 30 minutes south of Wollongong). This route was once National Route 1 and also Alternate National Route 1 after the F6 freeway opened in the 1960s.

The route passes through the towns of Bulli, Thirroul, Fairy Meadow, Wollongong, Figtree, Unanderra, Dapto and others and is a mixture of 2 lane single carriageway, 4 lane single carriageway and short sections of divided 4 lane road.

The route takes in the Princes Highway and also the Northern Distributor.
