New South Wales Road Photo Gallery:
State Route 84 (Golden Highway) (Singleton to Dubbo)

The Golden Highway is designated as State Route 84, it runs eastwards from Dubbo towards Singleton in the Hunter Valley and enables road transport to avoid travelling over the Blue Mountains to Sydney to access coastal ports at Newcastle.

The Golden Highway runs through Dubbo, Ballimore, Muronbong, Elong Elong, Cobbora, Dunedoo, Uarbry, Cassilis, Merriwa, Sandy Hollow, Denman, Jerry's Plains and even Singleton (not on main route).

East Terminus: New England Highway, 11 km West of Branxton. West Terminus: Newell Highway and Fitzroy Street, Dubbo.

Timeline: 1928: Mt Thorley-Denman section proclaimed Main Road 213, Denman-Merriwa section proclaimed Main Road 209, Merriwa-Cassilis section proclaimed Trunk Route 62, Dunedoo-Dubbo section proclaimed Main Road 206 (Internal classifications), Golden Highway proclaimed in February 1997.

Old Road Alignment
This image from November 2004, shows the old road alignment due to substantial open cut mining in the Warkworth area. The road has moved several times over the years and will probably but ripped up again in the not-too-distant future. Note the dirt piles in the backgound of the photo.

Unusual Rest Areas Sign
This sign is not all that common, and tells motorists how far the next rest areas are. Taken near Wambo Colliery, Warkworth heading West. Note the ugly font which is common to RTA Hunter Region signage.
