Welcome to the Queensland Road Photo Gallery : National Routes.
Queensland has 5 routes that make up part of the National Route and National Highway system, plus several that have been converted to the alphanumeric system. The only difference between National Routes and National Highways is the coloring of the shield. National Highways have a green and gold shield, while National Routes have the black and white shield. The reason for the different shields was to indicate which routes were federally funded. The National Highway system was introduced in 1974.
