Castlereagh Highway & Carnarvon Highway

The Castlereagh Highway travels from New South Wales into Queensland.

The Castlereagh Highway starts just outside of Lithgow in NSW at the junction with the Great Western Highway and runs in a north-westerly direction past Mudgee and Gulgong, past Gilgandra until it reaches the Queensland border at Hebel. From there it continues to the town of St George where it terminates. A55 continues from here as the Carnarvon Highway.

Centres along the route include (NSW) Mudgee, Gulgong, Dunedoo, Gilgandra, Coonamble, Walgett, Lightning Ridge, (QLD) Hebel, Dirranbandi and St George.
