M5: Western Motorway & Centenary Highway

M5 starts at the interchange with the Ipswich Motorway (Metroad 2) at Darra in Brisbane's western suburbs. M5 was formerly Metroad 5 and was changed to M5 in October 2006 covering the Centenary Highway and Western Freeway sections of Metroad 5. Most of the Metroad 5 signs shown in this section are now coverplated with M5 sheilds.

The route takes in the Centenary Highway north of Metroad 2, the Western Freeway, M5 becomes Metroad 5 and then traverses Brisbane's north western suburbs such as Ashgrove, Alderley, and Stafford, before terminating at Kedron at the Metroad 3 intersection - Lutwyche and Gympie Roads.

Centenary Highway:

The Centenary Highway is a nine kilometre limited access road in the western suburbs of Brisbane which starts at the interchange with the Logan Motorway at Ellen Grove and ends at Kenmore where it changes its name to the Western Freeway. It features eight interchanges, the major ones being with the Ipswich Motorway in Darra and another at Sinnamon Park. The Centenary Highway links traffic from the west to the north of Brisbane. The Centenary Highway bears the M5 sheild.

Almost the entire length is of road is dual carriageway with on-ramps and off-ramps, with a speed limit ranging mostly between 90 and 100km/h. There is a small section between the Ipswich Motorway and Progress Road interchanges where the road is only two lanes with traffic lights and is named Garden Road.

The Western Freeway:

It's 4 km long and is made up of the following information:

1st stage (single carriageway) between Mt Cootha Road and Taringa Parade was constructed in the late 1960's and was the first freeway in QLD which opened in 1969. North Terminii: Mt Cootha Road, Towong. South Terminii: Centenary Highway / Moggill Road, Indooroopilly.

Former route number was State Route 32 (also currently Milton Road) which ran into Centenary Highway as well until 1995 when Metroads were introduced.
