Former Alignment: Newell Highway / Leichhardt Highway Goondiwindi

The Leichhardt Highway is a north-south route through central and southern Queensland, providing a link to cities and towns such as Rockhampton, Gladstone and Mackay to New South Wales and the southern states.

The highway starts on the Queensland side at Goondiwindi, as a continuation from the Newell Highway in NSW after crossing the QLD / NSW border. Heading north from Goondiwindi, the highway is part of the National Highway until it leaves the Gore Highway duplex about 20 kilometres away.
