National Route 1 (Pacific Highway, Captain Cook Highway, Kennedy Highway & Guld Developmental Road)

There are 3 routes in Queensland that bear the National Route 1 sheild and are at opposite ends of the state.

The southern-most section is the Pacific Highway through Tugun and Bilinga, near the NSW-QLD Border. This section is curently being by-passed by the Pacific Motorway to the west of the current alignment. When the by-pass (known at the Tugun By-Pass) is complete, the National Route 1 sheild will be relinquished from the current route. The by-pass will be numbered M1.

The northern parts of National Route 1 forms part of the Savannah Way and traverses Far North Queensland at Cairns and also the Queensland Outback passing through towns and settlements such as Georgetown and Normanton.
