National Route 1: Former Alignment: Pacific Highway
(Coolangatta)
The Pacific Highway in Queensland is quite short and
is not to be confused with the Pacific Motorway. The
Pacific Highway began its life back in the 1930s and
included what is now the Gold Coast Highway.
Various alignments of the Pacific Highway in Queensland
have been used over the years, however this page concentrates
on the former alignment in the Coolangatta area. Most
of the evidence of the highway going though here on
the QLD side has been removed, however little things
here and there point to the fact that the highway did
once go through Coolangatta. The Tweed
Heads (NSW) side of the border has several remnants
indicating the roadway's former importance.

- in this case, looking east, Queensland (Coolangatta)
is left of the gap down the centre and NSW (Tweed Heads)
is on the other. This one is on the corner of Griffith
