National Route 42 (Cunningham
Highway (Goondiwindi to Warwick))
The Cunningham Highway (NH-A15) starts 6km east of
Ipswich at the junction of the Ipswich Motorway (Metroad
2) and the Warrego Highway (NH-A2). It's named after
the explorer and botanist Allan Cunningham who followed
a route close to where the modern day highway runs.
It runs southwesterly from Brisbane until it terminates
at Goondiwindi. It is National Highway A-15 until Warwick
where it then becomes NR42.
Just west of Ipswich, the highway goes over the mountain
pass of Cunningham's Gap.
Towns along the route include: Ipswich, Aratula,
Warwick, Inglewood, Yelarbon and Goondiwindi.
