State Route 26
State Route 26 takes in several roads such as Deception
Bay Road, Anzac Avenue, Snook Street, Elizabeth Avenue,
Houghton Highway Deagon Deviation (which uses the northbound
carriageway of the Gateway Motorway (M1)), Braun Street,
Sandgate Road, Frodsham Street, Abbotsford Road, Markwell
Street and St Paul's Terrace.
The route is in metropolitain Brisbane and its southern
terminus is at the junction with Brunswick Street, St
Paul's Terrace and Barry Parade in Fortitude Valley.
The northern terminus is at the interchange with Settlement
Road and the Bruce Highway (NH-M1) at Burpengary. SR26
passes through Deception Bay, Kippa-Ring, Clontarf,
Brighton, Boondall, Virginina, Nundah, Woolowin, Albion,
Hamilton & Fortitude Valley.
The route includes a bridge opened in 1935, the Hornibrook
Bridge. It was the original link to Redcliffe. Since
closing to vehicle traffic in 1979, the bridge has been
a pedestrian and cycle link and popular spot for fishing.
The Hornibrook Bridge consists of approximately 1800
timber girders. The bridge however is in disrepair and
will be dismantled upon the widening / duplication of
the Houghton Highway. The old arches at either end of
the old structure will be retained. For images of the
old arches, see SR27.
