A somewhat major link between in far north Queensland, west of the Bruce Highway between Innisfail and Cairns, this route winds its way through hilly terrain and takes in towns such as Little Mulgrave, Gadgarra, Lake Barrine and Yungaburra, Atherton and Herberton. The route also passes through Crater Lakes National Park and Goldsborough Valley State Forest.
Starting at the Bruce Highway at its norther terminus, the route duplexes the Kennedy Highway at Atherton before heading south to Herberton and joining back up with the Kennedy Highway near Millaa Millaa.
